The history that occurred on this plane is simply huge and enthralling. The Boeing VC-137C, also known as SAM 26000, was the first jet aircraft built specifically for use by the President of the United States. It made its first appearance on October 10, 1962, and hence giving President Kennedy the pleasure of being its first passenger. First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, redesigned its color model to its current blue and white.
One of its most historic moments occurred swiftly after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, wherein Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as president aboard SAM 26000 as the plane carried him and the body of President Kennedy back to Washington, DC. The aircraft also safely transported seven more presidents; Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Clinton. Adding to its history, the aircraft later became known for the 13 trips that Henry Kissinger made in secret to negotiate peace talks with the north Vietnamese in Paris.
SAM 26000 has the capacity for up to eight crew members and 40 passengers. Its maximum speed is 600 mph and has a range of 6,000 miles. Its defense and communications technology remain secret.
